DIE PRETTY
They’re out on their own in Oxford are Die Pretty, probably because all the other bands are either too scared or too embarrassed to join them on their singular journey through Hammer Horror sleazecore and glam-goth lunacy. We’ve reviewed so many of their demos over the past few years that we’ve pretty much run out of new things to say about them but they keep coming up with the goods. As expected the main driving forces behind the two tracks here are Marilyn Manson, Sisters Of Mercy, Suicide and maybe a little bit of industrial pioneers Skinny Puppy. All ace stuff and done with lowdown, dirty aplomb. Maybe it’s because they’re genuinely a bit mad or because their live shows tend to descend into chaos, but Oxford’s never taken them to heart as well as it should have done. But really, Die Pretty are just about the most genuinely rock and roll band in town and this demo sounds like it was recorded in a sewer by a gang of rats before being sent to a discarded dungeon to be remixed by lizards. Trash - in the very best sort of way.
