Demo Of The Month THE WOUNDED DOGS
Oh yes. Oh yes indeed. Gnarly, nasty, noisy bluesy swamp rock from the Elvis-inspired school of redneck junkies. Bunch of students by all accounts and yet to tread the boards in Oxford, The Wounded Dogs cut a belligerent and relentless groove, leaning heavily on their flange and wah-wah pedals (and possibly another pedal simply called “Grime”). There are times when it sounds like the singer needs to smoke a few more fags, maybe lose an eye or a limb, sounding a bit like Liam Gallagher on occasions, but mostly the band promise great things, mixing up classic 50s rock’n’roll, 60s garage punk and West Coast psychedelia and the odd drop of space rock. One song, `Baby Baby’ is only 52 seconds long and you wonder why all songs can’t be so brief and to the point, while `Less Than Zero’ flies off to play with Hawkwind and Spacemen 3. Fledgling stuff at the moment but it’s got dirt under its fingernails, a gasoline-stained shirt on and a cocktail of speed and acid in its blood. We very much look forward to meeting it face to face in the near future.

Each month the winner of the Demo Of The Month award wins two days free recording at Rotator Studios on Magdalen Road. For special recording deals for local bands call 01865 205600.
