GREETINGS... Welcome to a very special issue of Nightshift. This month we will witness the biggest single live music event ever in Oxford. Radiohead play their first local gig for five years in front of 40,000 people in South Park; their last Oxford gig was a two-night stint at the Zodiac in August 1996 - capacity 500. You could say that things have moved on a bit for the band in the meantime. Anyway, we think it’s a cause for celebration: not least because Radiohead have put Oxford music on the world map like no other band, but also because - and we’re blowing our own trumpet a little bit here - ten years ago, when Nightshift was just starting out, under the name Curfew, we put On A Friday on the front cover and gave them their first write-ups. To mark the occasion we’ve got an exclusive interview with Colin Greenwood in this issue along with a reproduction of that original band interview, plus On A Friday’s first live and demo reviews from 1991. In addition there’s an opportunity to win a fantastic Radiohead prize as well as a pair of Carling Weekend tickets. We’re also looking forward to this month’s Truck Festival over the weekend of the 21st and 22nd. All this plus the usual reviews and of course the best Oxfordshire gig guide you’ll find anywhere. No, don’t thank us, to be honest we actually quite enjoy doing all this. And you know what? We do it all for you. |
